PILLAR THREE: Inclusive Enterprise & Employment Pathways
Aligned to SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth + SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities
Milki Desserts is a purpose-led hospitality venture operated by Progen Innovations Pty Ltd. It exists to combine commercial sustainability with measurable social impact by creating paid, supported entry-level hospitality pathways for people who face barriers to work.
Our current focus includes young people seeking first work experience, and migrants, refugees, and multilingual jobseekers who may face challenges such as limited local work experience, language barriers, low confidence, disrupted work history, transport limitations, or family responsibilities. We use a practical support model that can include structured induction, buddy support, additional supervision, task breakdown, workplace communication support, rostering flexibility, and referral to external supports where needed.
Milki is being developed as a social enterprise pathway, not simply as a café. We measure progress through paid work opportunities, retention, skills gained, and progression towards broader employment readiness and mainstream work. Our operating entity has purpose and reinvestment provisions embedded in its governing documents, including a commitment to apply not less than 60% of surplus towards purpose over time, subject to the constitution and prudent business needs.
Our Focus Areas:
- Employment pathways through hospitality
- Workplace skills and confidence building
- Multicultural inclusion
- Scalable social enterprise development
Our Approach:
We aim to build inclusive business models that create real work opportunities, combine strong commercial discipline with clear social purpose, and reinvest in training, support, and pathway development.
